Indianapolis Marathon Information
2008 RACE INFORMATION RACE REGULATIONS Due to insurance requirements, no baby joggers, unofficial bicycles, roller blades, headsets*, or animals will be allowed. (* We ask that you abide by this rule for headsets/ipods, but this will not be enforced as there is no way we can enforce it. All other items listed will be strictly enforced.) No phone or fax entries are accepted. Only one participant per entry form. Reassignment or name changes of entries are not permitted. The Waiver and Release of Liability MUST be signed in order to process your entry. Participants must maintain a 14:00/mile pace for the Full Marathon and 15:00/mile pace for the Half Marathon or they will be asked to move to the side of the road (or sidewalk) and obey all pedestrian laws.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17TH - PACKET PICKUP AND PASTA DINNER Packet pick-up and expo will be held at the Sterrett Center near 56th Street and Post Road from 11:00am - 8:00pm and parking is free. Address to the Sterrett Center is 8950 Otis Avenue, Indianapolis, 46216. Special Note! We ask that everyone come on Friday to pick-up your packets and enjoy the expo! Saturday we will only offer packet pick-up for 1 hour between 6:30am -7:30am, because our focus will be on preparing for the races. Pre-registered participants arriving after 7:30am to pick up their packets cannot be guaranteed they will be processed by the race start. Please come Friday! Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. No packets will be mailed. There will be a pasta dinner at the Party Tent at the Race Site from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. The Party Tent is located at the Finish Line and is two blocks due West of the Sterrett Center on Otis Avenue. The address to the finish line is 8755 Otis Avenue, Indianapolis, 46216. SCORING AND TIMING All events (except the Kids' Marathon) will be timed using the chip enclosed in your race packet. YOU MUST WEAR YOUR CHIP ON YOUR SHOELACE TO GET TIMED/SCORED! You also must wear your bib number visibly on the front of your body. Please make certain the information on your bib is correct before leaving packet pickup. All Full, Half, and Relay Marathon finishers will receive a finisher medal. Food, water, and Gatorade will be available at the finish. Top of Page
KIDS MARATHON The Lawrence Kids Marathon is a 1 mile fun run for children in grades 5 and under. It has been created to encourage children to exercise by establishing a fun and exciting goal for them to strive toward. The Lawrence Kids' Marathon will be run during the Indianapolis Marathon and will share the finish line with the participants of the actual marathon! There will be hundreds of spectators present at the Marathon finish line to cheer for the kids. The kids are the "crowd favorites" and receive much encouragement.
Entry fee is $6.00 which includes a shirt. ($8 after 08/31/2008, $10 after 10/04/2008). The Lawrence Kids Marathon will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2008. The event starts at 11:45 am, which is midway through the running of the Indianapolis Marathon. The events will take place at the Marathon Race Site which is 2 blocks West of Post Road just North of 56th Street in Lawrence (2 miles east of I-465 on 56th St.) Registration and check-in will be from 10:00 am to 11:30 am in a tent just South of the marathon finish line. The Kids Marathon will be run on the actual Marathon course and will finish at the Marathon Finish Line. The race is not timed or scored. The purpose of the event is to have fun with physical fitness by striving for the marathon goal.

RELAY MARATHON Relay teams must have four members to compete in the Indianapolis Marathon Relay Division. All team members must complete a registration form. All completed forms must be mailed as a package (same envelope) with total team payment. Relay Exchange Zones Leg 1 Start Line to 59th & Post Eastbound (5.75 miles) Leg 2 59th & Post Eastbound to State Park Entrance (6.75 miles) Leg 3 State Park Entrance to Marathon Turnaround (6.55 miles) Leg 4 Marathon Turnaround to Finish Line (7.15 miles) Transportation will be provided to and from exchange zone #3. WALKERS WELCOME The Marathon and Half Marathon courses will remain open and supported for all participants maintaining the following paces: Half Marathon 15 min/mile, and Full Marathon 14 min/mile. This works out to finishing times of 3 hours 17 minutes for the Half Marathon and 6 hours 7 minutes for the Full Marathon.
